Murphy "In-A-Dor" Bed- How they operate -
The Murphy "In-A-Dor" Bed easily attaches to an ordinary closet doorframe
via a patented steel doorjamb and floor pivot,
and then easily and effortlessly swings into and completely out of the room
.... through any ordinary closet door!
(requires approx 27" of inside closet width beside the closet door)These beds will also install on an outside room corner,
or on a post/beam for open loft-type spaces, without closets

( Mattress is not included. )
These beds do not use a box springThe spring-activated headboard automatically "folds down" during closure and grips the top of the mattress
(see picture above)... while a patented "grip" mechanism at the foot of the bed always holds the bottom of the mattress firmly in place. Each of these authentic Murphy "In-a-Dor" bed is complete
- fully functional -
- absolutely useable -Some have minor surface soil, some may have a bit of paint or other "personal touches" and patinas acquired during many years of satisfying and active use.
Each bed has a unique and "timeless" personality that goes along with its rich history.NONE of these beds has been defaced, modified, or "renovated" in any way that affects its value as an antique, or its functionality as a fully usable and practical piece of furniture.
Each bed comes with all hardware - no broken or missing parts.
Each is ready for many, many more years of vigorous use. These Murphy "In-a-Dor" Beds were carefully removed from a turn-of-the century apartment building in Central Southwest Washington State and are offered by the owner, who prefers they go to a single buyer. These are authentic American antiques from the early 1900's: manufactured in San Francisco by the original Murphy Bed Company, and originally installed, as a lot, direct from the factory, into the building from which they have been removed.
While these beds have "been around" for nearly 100 years...they've only had one loving home.

Each bed weighs approx. 170 lb (shipping weight) but once installed are as "light as a feather" and easily manipulated by one person. Beds are standard double-bed size, approx 85" long and 53" wide. Headboard is 40" tall, footboard is 26" tall. All metal parts.
These rare, antique Murphy "In-A-Dor" Beds are offered for acquisition well below the current market value, and well below the price of new, modern, and suddenly re-popular "murphy-type" cabinet or wall bed "knock offs" that sell for thousands of dollars each... yet still dominate the room!
They are also offered well below the cost of modern "murphy bed" -type mechanisms available to carpenters, woodworkers, do-it-yourselfers, and custom cabinet-makers, who then must construct the "wall cabinets" into which the bed mechanism must be installed.
These are not "cabinet beds" or "wall beds" or "flying beds"
These are the original, patented (1912-1916)
Murphy "In-A-Dor" Bed...the bed that pivots into and out of an ordinary closet, and completely disappears from the room!
