distributed email lists use software to manage messages between a group: on these lists everyone who subscribes gets every message, and every reply goes to all subscribers.
1. subscribe to a list:

leave subject line blank
in body of message: subscribe LISxxxx yourfirstname, yourlastname, your du
username
where xxxx is the number of the course for which list you want to subscribe (see
list of classes with distributed email lists below).
you will receive a confirmation by return email, after which you may send
messages to the list using the list address below
when you no longer wish to send/receive from the list, unsubscribe follow the same directions, except use the command unsubscribe rather than subscribe
