Information Architecture

This is an entirely online graduate level course for librarians, web developers, and other information professionals.  This course is offered for credit through several university graduate programs and provides a comprehensive introduction to the core theories, concepts, and methods used in the profession of information architecture.  This course explores emerging trends and practices and provides practical experience with the tools and environments of Information Architects.

This course is facilitated by professor joanne twining, M.L.S., Ph.D., principle for intertwining.org, a virtual information consultancy engaged in information architecture practice since 1971. For information about offering this course through your university, contact twining [at] intertwining.org

Designing distinctive experiences is as much art as it is science.  Science is the technology, the tools, and the infrastructure, and is the more tangible ingredient of a solution.  But a solution is not achieved with technology alone.  Creativity is required to pull all the parts together and make them work seamlessly. Creativity requires focus on subjective issues -- consumer likes and dislikes, usability, processes, preferences, and needs.
