Designed and implemented "history making" replicable management model for privatized (nonprofit) operation of State Historical Park slated for closure.
Assumed full operational and fiscal responsibility for historically unprofitable 1890s presidential birthplace museum and and ten acre urban park in an experimental project to revitalize through innovative programming, public involvement in decision making, and active efforts to make the history of the park alive for visitors and community.

• Secured and administered diverse Human Resource Programs involving 40+ individuals.
• Solicited and managed Volunteer Programs for park operation and revitalization projects.
• Implemented extensive Education Support Activity, reaching 20,000 K-college students.
• Initiated assertive Public & Media Relations campaign, gaining significant attention.

1979-1990

Young (Arizona) Public Library Board of Trustees:

• Participated in design and funding for construction of NEW rural public library facility;
• increased library hours from four hours to 60 hours per week
• by connection, increased holdings from 500 uncataloged to 50,000 cataloged volumes;
• created first catalog for library;
• directed award-winning summer arts and reading program;
• addressed and resolved freedom of information and censorship issues;
• secured funding for and designed multimedia library center;
• accessed existing secondary property tax revenues for ongoing library operation;
• established relationship with publishers for local sale of books as ongoing funding source for library expansion.
• founded Friends of Library group.
• Wrote and administered multiple successful foundation grants.

...all this because I couldn't live in a community without a library...and all as a volunteer leader functioning "as if" I were a librarian. I didn't know what I didn't know about libraries until later, until I studied Library Science for my Master's Degree...but were I to do it  over now,
I'd do it just the same way!

Community Council - Citizen activist and gadfly

• secured significant social services for community, including low income housing assistance, weatherization, health care and food supplement programs;
• participated in formation of volunteer-operated community food cooperative;
• established and mediated positive county/community communication during explosive planning/zoning and development proposals;
• participated in and/or initiated a variety of environmental programs including:

• Advised in design and assisted in funding drive to establish innovative satellite distance learning center for K-12 curriculum;
• initiated, assisted in design and secured funding for gifted learning program;
• initiated and implemented adult continuing education curriculum.
• Designed and presented innovative "Newspapers in Education" program resulting in student-produced four-page newspaper insert.
