"Foundations of the Formal Sciences" (FotFS) is a series of interdisciplinary conferences about the foundational aspects of mathematics, philosophy, computer science and linguistics. The main goal is to reestablish the traditionally strong  links between these areas of research that have been lost in the past decades.  This fourth meeting of the series will be devoted to a reflection on the object of interest: What are the Formal Sciences? How do they differ from the Natural Sciences and the Arts? How have they been perceived through history?”

Research Interests:

Personal Research Agenda:

I am developing and testing Nitecki’s metaphorical Metalibrarianship model (with author’s permission) as a knowledge-focused alternative to subject-based (document-centered) organization and retrieval to inform the architecture and design of collaborative learning and knowledge environments.

I’ve successfully used (and integrated) the model as a knowledge delivery schema for my graduate level classes, which, while technology-use oriented, are principally focused on philosophy of librarianship and the ancient arts.  I have successfully tested the model as a self-evaluation (diagnostic and prescriptive) tool for learning organizations and knowledge and information flows and collections.  I am developing a schema for the procedural, contextual, and conceptual “relations known” among the model’s three (geometric) dimensions and nine facets, and taxonomizing the element->attributes of those relations for an extensible DOM architecture for knowledge transfer in organizations and dynamic content environments.

I believe the Metalibrarianship model can drive the design and evaluation of next generation collaborative, intelligent, online knowledge environments; that it has implications and applications for delivery and affective evaluation of education and training; and that it can serve as an effective and efficient diagnostic and prescriptive tool for Knowledge Management when ported to appropriate visualization software.
